Sound, especially music, is an important part of the film experience. Composer Steve Wood has been scoring films for MacGillivray Freeman Films for more than four decades and has worked on numerous IMAX® films, including DolphinsEverest and the latest IMAX adventure, Journey to the South Pacific. Hear Wood speak about his storied career and his creative process for enhancing films with music. After the discussion, enjoy a special evening screening of Journey to the South Pacific. Watch the video below for a sneak peek of what Steve will share with you.

Large-screen films, such as IMAX films, show for many years (To Fly has been showing for 30 years straight!). Therefore, the music must feel somewhat contemporary but can’t be too trendy. Music plays a very large role in this format and though under-score is important, much of the music is up front and very melodic. Most recently, Steve won the GSCA award for best music in 2007 for Hurricane On The Bayou, and also won a Golden Reel Award for Special Venue Music Editor in 2008 for Grand Canyon Adventure.

The lecture will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater, followed by a special evening screening of Journey to the South Pacific.
