Our next Science on the Rocks party will be held on October 17, 2013! The focus will be on chocolate—mmm, mmm, mmm!

Our most recent party was held on July 13. The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center celebrated the season of tank tops and flip flops in style at our most recent fun-filled Science on the Rocks party, That’s Hot: The Fleet’s Summer Sizzler. Guests noshed on nibbles from San Diego’s favorite restaurants and sipped cool drinks while soaking up the ambiance of summer-themed science activities.

June's event also featured live music! Songs for People performed live at That's Hot: The Fleet's Summer Sizzler. In between sets, a DJ kept the tunes flowing.

Additionally, guests found out what a Slinky has in common with surfing, and experienced the thrill of designing their own roller coasters. They let their creativity shine by making a solar bead bracelet, and had a blast with geometric bubbles. They took a swing at the science of baseball to see if their knowledge helped them score playing baseball on the Xbox. They sipped their way to expertise in a rum-tasting seminar hosted by Deadhead Rum and delved into board evolution and board shaping with a seminar on the science of surfing, led by the founder of Shaper Studios and members of SURFAID. They explored the Living Coast Discovery Center's touch tank and learned about the critters with which we share the sea. They flashed smiles at the photo op.

They also took a culinary tour with complimentary bites from Sushi on a Roll, Sensational Treats, The South Park Abbey, Crazee Burger and Coop's West Texas BBQ. They slaked their thirst with a mini-cocktail from Deadhead Rum and craft beer samples from Mike Hess Brewing, Aztec Brewing Company and Manzanita Brewing and called the shots at the no-host cocktail bar by BarWorks. At evening’s end, they got a discounted luxury ride home from Uber.

Science on the Rocks is open to adults ages 21+ only. I.D. is required.
